🏆 THE COLLECTION

Opened on April 16, 1989, as a commemorative project for Toyota's 50th anniversary, the Toyota Automobile Museum in Nagakute, Aichi Prefecture is not a Toyota brand museum — it is a global celebration of the entire automobile. Over 140 vehicles represent the complete arc of automotive history, from the world's first gasoline-powered car (an 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen replica) through European vintage classics to post-war Japanese production. Almost all vehicles are maintained in roadworthy condition.

Three floors of the Automobile Gallery track history chronologically. The first floor houses a replica of Toyota's original Model AA (1936), the second features global classics from every decade, and the third is dedicated to Japan's domestic automotive heritage — the story of how Japan went from nothing to world leader in under 60 years. A fourth-floor Automobile Culture Showroom, added for the museum's 30th anniversary in 2019, displays over 4,000 artefacts: miniature cars, racing posters, badges, and memorabilia tracing car culture worldwide.
